The Preemie Project will cease operations as an independent nonprofit in 2026, according to its founder, Mandy Booth. The organization is merging with Wynter’s Haven, a newly established nonprofit focused on providing vital medical equipment to families of children with special needs. The decision comes as the Preemie Project faces significant financial challenges.

Located in Dothan, Alabama, Wynter’s Haven was founded by Kristen Lewis after her personal experience highlighted the urgent need for accessible medical supplies. Lewis’s daughter, Wynter, required equipment such as a gait trainer, which can take months to obtain. “It could be six months to a year before you could get a medical stroller or a gait trainer,” Lewis explained. “With everyone donating their stuff, we can give it to other families that are either waiting on insurance or cannot get it.”

The merger aims to streamline the process of acquiring essential medical equipment for families. Many parents currently face long waits for items critical to their children’s well-being. The collaboration intends to mitigate these delays by facilitating donations of unused medical equipment, thus assisting families in urgent need.

Although Wynter’s Haven has begun its operations by collecting and distributing medical supplies, it will officially launch in 2026. Lewis encourages families with surplus medical equipment to consider donating. The initiative aims to create a community-focused approach to address the equipment shortages that many families encounter.

For updates and further information, Wynter’s Haven can be found on social media platforms like Facebook. The merger represents a significant step in enhancing support for families grappling with the challenges of securing necessary medical devices.
