St. Joseph Community Chorus Set for December Holiday Performances

Community members in St. Joseph, Missouri, will have the opportunity to engage in the spirit of the season with two festive performances by the St. Joseph Community Chorus (SJCC) this December. The chorus has announced a series of holiday programs that promise to showcase a variety of seasonal classics, including the chance for attendees to share their vocal talents.

On Saturday, December 13, 2024, at 15:00, the First Presbyterian Church will host a free “Messiah Sing-A-Long.” Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Tharaldson and Dr. Ruth Krusemark, this event will allow participants to join in singing uplifting choruses from George Frideric Handel’s *Messiah*. Attendees are invited to bring their own scores, though copies will be available on-site for those who do not have one. While admission is free, donations are encouraged to support the chorus.

The festivities continue with SJCC’s annual tradition, “Christmas at the Cathedral,” scheduled for two performances. The first will take place on December 21, 2024, at 15:00, followed by another show on December 22, 2024, at 19:00. Both performances will be held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 519 N. 10th St. This year, the chorus will collaborate with the acclaimed handbell ensemble, Rezound!, known for its impressive 15 ringers and a remarkable array of instruments, including 61⁄2 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and 6 octaves of Malmark choir chimes.

During the “Christmas at the Cathedral” performances, attendees can expect a blend of stunning musical pieces, including Anna Laura Page’s “Creation Will Be at Peace,” “Christmas Is Coming” by Joel Raney, and “Ring Out Ye Bells” by Marques L.A. Garrett, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest. Ticket prices are set at $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free admission for all students.
