The Great Bend Public Library is bustling with activities this December, offering a variety of community events designed to engage and entertain residents. On December 4, the library invites locals to participate in several programs, starting with the Genealogy Corner at 11:00 a.m. Following that, the VolunTeens program provides a chance for youth to contribute to their community while earning rewards.

At 4:00 p.m., volunteers will gather to assemble gift boxes for local sponsors, showcasing gratitude and fostering community spirit. Then, at 6:00 p.m., attendees can enjoy holiday-themed beverages prepared by resident chef Lisa. This session aims to teach participants how to impress friends and family with delightful drinks during the festive season.

As the evening continues, the library will host a Holiday Trivia event at Dry Lake starting at 7:00 p.m. This lively gathering promises fun and prizes for those who participate, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for all ages.

Important notice: The library will close during regular business hours on Friday for a staff in-service day. Nevertheless, it will reopen that evening at 7:00 p.m. for the Adults’ Night Out Movie event. Film enthusiasts aged 18 and older are invited to enjoy a heartwarming holiday film that explores themes of friendship and kindness. The story centers on a selfish postman and a reclusive toymaker who, together, transform a desolate town through small acts of goodwill.

Popcorn and seating will be available starting at 6:45 p.m., with the north doors remaining open for entry until 7:15 p.m. This movie night aims to bring the community together in a festive and heartwarming way.

Upcoming Events at the Library

The library has even more in store for the upcoming week. On Saturday, December 5, from 12:30 to 16:45, teens in grades 6-12 can participate in a Dungeons & Dragons Winter Wonderland One-Shot session. While the gaming table is full, all teens are welcome to attend as an audience without prior registration.

Tech enthusiasts can bring their questions to Tech Tuesday on December 8 at 11:00 a.m. Furthermore, from 17:30 to 19:00, the library will host a gathering for local writers. Tweens, teens, and adults from the Barton County area are encouraged to join these monthly meetings to share their work and develop their craft.

On Thursday, December 11, crafters aged 18 and older can attend the Adult Craft session at 18:00. Participants will have the opportunity to create beautiful Coffee Filter Angels, perfect for winter décor or holiday gifts. As spots are limited, attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

To stay updated on all upcoming events and programs, community members can visit the library’s website at greatbendpl.info or follow them on social media @greatbendpl.
