Longborough Opera Festival Unveils Star-Studded 2026 Lineup

The Longborough Opera Festival has officially announced its 2026 season, featuring a diverse array of performances by prominent artists. The festival will showcase four major operas, each led by acclaimed performers and conductors, promising an engaging experience for opera enthusiasts.

Beth Taylor, Anna Devin, Katie Bray, Kelli-Ann Masterson, and Andrew Foster-Williams will take the stage in Handel’s “Orlando.” Conducted by Christopher Moulds and directed by Sinéad O’Neill, this production is scheduled to run from May 30 to June 7, 2026. This classic opera is expected to draw significant attention, highlighting the talents of its ensemble cast.

Following this, Peter Wedd and Catharine Woodward will lead Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde,” alongside Catherine Carby, Alastair Miles, Robert Hayward, and Peter Bronder. Conducted by Anthony Negus and directed by Carmen Jakobi, this production will be performed from June 20 to July 18, 2026. The combination of Wagner’s powerful music and a talented cast is anticipated to create a memorable experience for attendees.

The festival will also present Verdi’s “Macbeth,” featuring Mark Stone, Viktoriia Balan, Jung Soo Yun, and John Molloy. Under the baton of Nil Venditti and directed by Karolina Sofulak, performances are set for July 1 to 16, 2026. This production is expected to explore the dark themes inherent in Verdi’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy.

Additionally, Humperdinck’s beloved “Hansel and Gretel” will star Joanna Harries, Rosalind Dobson, Darren Jeffery, Lee Bisset, and Kelli Ann-Masterson. Conducted by Karen Kamensek and directed by Lucy Bailey, this charming opera will run from July 30 to August 8, 2026. This production promises to delight audiences of all ages.

In a special concert, Anthony Negus will conduct a performance of the Wesendonck Lieder featuring soprano Emma Bell on March 5, 2026. This event will offer a unique opportunity to experience Wagner’s lyrical works in an intimate setting.
