Sharon Osbourne Reflects on Assisted Suicide Pact with Ozzy
Sharon Osbourne has publicly discussed her past agreement with her late husband, Ozzy Osbourne, regarding assisted suicide. In a recent interview, she revealed that the couple had made a pact to seek assistance from the Swiss organization Dignitas if either of them were to suffer from dementia. This revelation comes in light of Ozzy’s struggles with health issues prior to his death on February 4, 2023.
During the conversation, Sharon expressed her thoughts on the pact, stating, “I would have just gone with Ozzy. Oh, yeah, definitely, I’ve done everything I wanted to do.” Despite her initial stance, she ultimately decided against following through with the agreement, citing the profound impact their three children—Aimee, Kelly, and Jack—had on her decision. Sharon remarked, “They’ve been…unbelievably, just magnificent with me, all three of them.”
Reflecting on a personal experience that shaped her views, Sharon shared a poignant memory from a time when she sought help for mental health issues. “Years ago, when I had one of my mental breakdowns, I went into a little facility to help with my head,” she recalled. There, she encountered two young women whose lives had been deeply affected by their mothers’ suicides. Witnessing their pain led Sharon to conclude, “I will never, ever, ever do that to my kids.”
The discussion highlighted the broader issues surrounding mental health and the difficult choices families face when dealing with terminal illnesses. Sharon’s heartfelt testimony emphasizes the importance of family support during trying times.
