Dollar General Signs Lease for New Store in Mountain Top

The former Rite Aid pharmacy building located at 2 Kirby Ave. in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, will soon welcome a new tenant. DOLGENCORP LLC, the parent company of Dollar General stores, has signed a 10-year lease for the property, which is owned by SADG-4 of Dickson City. This development marks a significant step for the retail chain as it expands its footprint in the region.

A spokesperson for Dollar General’s media relations confirmed the lease signing but did not provide a specific date for the store’s opening. The company is currently in a “final due diligence phase for a new store,” according to an email response. Additionally, the spokesperson assured that there are no plans to close the existing Dollar General store at 364 S. Mountain Blvd., which has been operating since 2013.

Nuangola Borough Reviews Zoning Regulations

In a related development, Nuangola Borough is set to address several amendments to its zoning ordinance during a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday at 19:00. The council will consider an amendment that regulates short-term rentals in the borough. This proposal seeks to limit such rentals to three percent of residential properties within each zoning district, requiring permits and conditional use approval in R-1, R-2, and B-1 zones. Under this ordinance, a short-term rental is defined as the rental of a single-family dwelling unit for less than 30 consecutive days.

Another item on the agenda includes a new ordinance concerning data centers. Additionally, the council will hear public input on an amendment that stipulates that any resident or property owner considered delinquent in paying refuse or garbage fees will not be eligible for zoning or building permits. The council plans to vote on these amendments during its meeting on December 11.

Dorrance Township Zoning Hearing to Continue

The Dorrance Township zoning hearing board will resume a significant hearing on November 13 at 18:00. The focus is on whether the township’s zoning ordinance, prior to a recent amendment, unlawfully excluded data centers. The Brewster Land Company, LLC, submitted an application on August 19, claiming a “substantive validity challenge” to the township’s zoning ordinance. They argue that, before the amendment on September 22, the ordinance improperly excluded data centers as legitimate land uses under Pennsylvania law.

While the company has yet to submit an actual application for constructing the data center, the ongoing hearings have included three hours of testimony, with the board deciding to continue discussions on November 13.

As these developments unfold, both the new Dollar General store and the zoning amendments are expected to have notable impacts on the local community and economy.
