Glendale Physician Charged with $45 Million Medicare Fraud Scheme

A physician from Glendale, California, faces serious allegations of defrauding Medicare by submitting fraudulent claims for Botox treatments. According to the U.S. Justice Department, Dr. Violetta Mailyan has been indicted for filing over $45 million in claims for procedures that were either unnecessary or never performed.

The federal grand jury’s indictment, announced on March 14, 2024, outlines a scheme where Mailyan allegedly falsified medical records to support her claims. Prosecutors assert that some of the Botox injections were billed on dates when Mailyan was traveling internationally or when the patients were not present in the United States. In particular, claims were submitted for one individual while they were incarcerated in a federal prison.
