Bobby’s Ice Set to Reopen in New Braunfels with Fresh Vibe
The beloved venue formerly known as Billy’s Ice is set to reopen under a new name, Bobby’s Ice, at a new location in New Braunfels. Owner Bob Wilson announced the transition via social media, stirring mixed emotions among loyal fans of the original establishment. The new spot will be at 6390 FM 1102, following the closure of Billy’s Ice at its previous address on Loop 337 in early October.
Bobby’s Ice aims to retain the vibrant atmosphere that made its predecessor popular while introducing some fresh elements. Wilson expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s been one hell of a run, but it’s time for a change.” The venue, which originally opened in 2008, has deep roots in the community, serving as a gathering place for live music and social interaction.
From Billy’s to Bobby’s: A New Chapter
Billy’s Ice was founded by Bill Sisoian, who envisioned a friendly bar with ice-cold beer. Over the years, it evolved into a cherished community hub, known not only for good times but also for its philanthropic efforts, contributing thousands of dollars to local causes, including support for cancer patients and veterans. Wilson, having stepped in to carry on the legacy, found himself facing a significant transition when the property was sold.
While seeking to preserve the spirit of Billy’s Ice, Wilson felt it was essential to move forward with a new identity. “I wanted to, respectfully, put the Billy’s family name to rest,” he stated. The new name, Bobby’s Ice, reflects his personal connection to the venue, as he humorously noted, “After all, my name is Bob.”
Exciting Changes Ahead for Patrons
Despite the change, Bobby’s Ice will maintain the dive bar ambiance that patrons have come to appreciate. The new establishment will focus on catering to families, opening earlier at 11:00 for lunch. The menu will feature items such as hot dogs and classic bar food, allowing families to enjoy meals while listening to live music in an open environment.
As the evening progresses, Bobby’s Ice will transform into a lively bar atmosphere, inviting guests to share a drink and enjoy entertainment. Wilson is optimistic about the opening, although construction and pending permits have impacted the timeline. Originally slated for an October opening, he now aims for mid to late November, pending approval from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
For those eager to stay updated, Wilson encourages potential patrons to follow the Bobby’s Ice Facebook page, where announcements regarding the grand opening and special promotions will be made. As Bobby’s Ice prepares to welcome back its community, the energy surrounding this transition is palpable, promising a blend of nostalgia and new experiences in the heart of New Braunfels.
