Grand Hyatt Kauai Celebrates Halloween with Pumpkin Carving Contest
On October 31, 2023, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa hosted a vibrant Halloween celebration featuring a pumpkin carving contest. The event showcased creative displays made by various resort departments and employees, allowing guests to vote for their favorite pumpkin creation.
Amy Christmas, a longtime vendor with Hawaiian Palm Baskets, expressed her appreciation for the festivities. “It’s so nice the resort does something like this for the employees,” she noted. Although she had not seen the pumpkin displays yet, she remarked on the enjoyment shared among attendees.
The pumpkin carving contest was part of a two-day Halloween celebration that began on October 30. The event attracted many guests, with employees dressed in seasonal costumes that included fairies, butterflies, and superheroes. Their enthusiasm was infectious, as guests captured photographs of both the creative pumpkin displays and the spirited staff.
An earlier part of the celebration included the Howloween Canine Costume contest, which took place on October 30. This event raised funds for the Kauai Humane Society’s pet food bank. Various animals participated, with awards given in several categories. Maile, a contestant representing the Kauai Humane Society, won the Pet and People category dressed as a hula dancer. Ruby, representing the Kauai Animal Welfare Society, was recognized for her frightening appearance enhanced with corn starch. The cutest animal title went to Waffles, who delighted judges with her Chicken and Waffles costume.
According to Diann Hartman, marketing and communications director at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, the two days of festivities have been a great success. “These two days have been a lot of fun,” she stated, adding that more celebrations are on the horizon. “We have Thanksgiving, and the lighting of the holiday lights the day after Thanksgiving. We hope to see everyone there.”
As the festivities continued, Amy Christmas playfully chased after a feather from her red stole, embodying her character as a flamboyant fortune teller. “I’m losing my feathers,” she joked, adding her prediction for the day: “I predict everyone having a perfect day.”
The Halloween event at the Grand Hyatt Kauai not only provided entertainment but also fostered a sense of community among guests and staff, setting a positive tone as the holiday season approaches.
