Helping Services Brightens Holidays with Annual Lights Fundraiser
The annual Holiday Lights fundraiser, organized by Helping Services for Youth and Families, attracted numerous visitors to the illuminated pathways of Pulpit Rock Campground on November 26, 2023. This cherished event not only showcases vibrant holiday lights but also serves as the nonprofit’s largest fundraising initiative, supporting a range of programs including mentoring and substance abuse assistance.
Community Involvement and Festive Atmosphere
In preparation for the event, volunteers worked diligently to install a variety of lighted displays beginning in early November. Local businesses sponsored each installation, contributing to the festive atmosphere with elaborate designs that often feature multiple alternating images, creating stunning animated effects. The campground was transformed into a dazzling spectacle, inviting families to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the displays.
This year’s walk-through event was enhanced by the closure of a portion of Pulpit Rock Road, ensuring increased safety for families and children attending the event. Visitors parked at Will Baker Park and had the option to walk along a riverside trail or take a shuttle bus to the lighted displays.
Alongside the breathtaking lights, attendees indulged in a variety of festive offerings, including warm soup, hot cocoa, cookies, and other delightful treats. The atmosphere was further enriched by holiday tunes performed by a group of carolers, creating a joyful ambiance for all present. Children and families also enjoyed rides on Pokey Pete, the miniature train provided by the Decorah Lions Club.
Accessible Festivities for All
The Holiday Lights display remains open for drive-through visitors from 17:00 to 21:00 each night between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This accessibility allows even more community members to experience the holiday spirit, all while supporting a vital organization dedicated to helping those in need.
The efforts of Helping Services for Youth and Families in organizing this event highlight the importance of community involvement and support during the holiday season. Through this annual fundraiser, the organization continues to provide essential services to families and individuals who rely on their programs throughout the year.
In a season marked by giving and togetherness, the Holiday Lights fundraiser serves not only as a source of joy but also as a crucial means of support for a community in need.
