MORGANTOWN – This evening, the annual Mohawk Bowl football game will feature a unique halftime show as the marching bands from Morgantown High School and University High School join forces. Scheduled for October 6, 2025, at 19:00 on Baker’s Ridge, the collaboration will showcase over 250 musicians performing together, providing a thrilling display of community spirit amidst the competitive atmosphere of the game.

As the two rival schools compete on the field, their bands will present a special performance that highlights the positive aspects of their longstanding rivalry. Each band comprises more than 100 members, and the joint performance aims to entertain fans and celebrate the arts in athletics. Band directors from both schools expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration.

“This gathering of bands is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the camaraderie that exists between our schools,” stated Mark Palmer, band director at University High since 2000. “We have collaborated like this about four times during my tenure, and it emphasizes how we can work together to enrich our community in Morgantown.”

The Morgantown band director, Lorne Hyskell, echoed Palmer’s sentiments, emphasizing the important role music plays in sports culture. “We have two exceptional bands from our state uniting to showcase the talent we have in Mon County,” he said. “While the football teams battle it out on the field, our bands will strive to provide an entertaining experience for the audience.”

In preparation for the performance, the bands held a joint practice session earlier this week at University High. The show will feature a medley of songs with a Halloween theme, culminating in a special surprise for the fans. “Our final number will be Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller,’” Hyskell revealed. “We have an exciting visual element planned to accompany it that we hope will delight the crowd. Our goal is to perform to the best of our abilities and create a memorable experience.”

The Mohawk Bowl is not just a contest of athletic skill; it serves as a celebration of community and school spirit. As the bands unite, attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere that transcends the competitive nature of the game. Fans are encouraged to remain in their seats during halftime to witness this extraordinary display of talent and collaboration.
