Austin Launches Free Spay/Neuter Clinic Amid Overpopulation Crisis
UPDATE: Austin Animal Services, in an urgent effort to combat pet overpopulation, has launched a free spay/neuter clinic running from November 13 to November 17, 2025. This critical initiative, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, aims to provide essential services for the pets of Austin and Travis County.
As the number of stray and homeless pets continues to rise, this clinic offers a lifeline to pet owners struggling with high veterinary costs. Not only will spay and neuter services be available, but pet owners can also access free vaccinations, microchips, and flea/tick prevention treatments. “As Austin’s municipal shelter, we’re committed to making sure every pet owner—no matter their income or neighborhood—has access to the services that keep pets healthy and communities safe,” stated Rolando Fernandez, Interim Director of Animal Services.
This clinic is the sixth event of its kind within the past year, aiming to alleviate the pressing issue of animal overpopulation. To date, previous clinics have successfully provided surgeries for over 5,000 pets, and this round anticipates benefiting another 1,200 animals. With typical spay/neuter procedures ranging from $75 to several hundred dollars, this free clinic removes financial barriers for many families.
Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early at the clinic located at 11580 Stonehollow Dr., Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758. Services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration starting at 6:00 am and concluding by 10:00 am daily or until capacity is reached.
This initiative not only addresses immediate health needs but also promotes responsible pet ownership, contributing to community safety. Organizers are already planning for another event in early 2026, further emphasizing their commitment to improving the welfare of pets in Austin.
As crowds gather for these vital services, the impact on families and their pets cannot be overstated. This community-based effort underscores the belief that every animal deserves access to quality care, reflecting Austin’s progressive values on animal welfare.
For pet owners in need of assistance, this clinic represents a crucial opportunity to ensure the health and safety of beloved pets and to help reduce the growing number of unwanted litters. Don’t miss this chance—arrive early and take advantage of these essential services!
