Boston Police Seize 2+ Kilograms of Fentanyl, Five Arrested
BREAKING: Boston Police have seized more than two kilograms of fentanyl and arrested five suspects in an urgent operation targeting escalating drug activity in the Southwest Corridor. The operation, launched in response to community complaints, underscores the city’s ongoing battle with the opioid crisis.
The police confirmed the seizure just hours ago, stating that the investigation was prompted by local residents’ reports of suspicious drug dealings following the closure of the Mass and Cass tent-city and open-air drug market. This area has seen a troubling rise in drug-related incidents, creating a sense of urgency among law enforcement.
During the operation, officers confiscated not only fentanyl but also 32 rounds of ammunition, digital scales, drug packaging materials, and over $3,000 in cash. The Boston Police Department (BPD) collaborated with multiple agencies, including the Youth Violence Strike Force, Massachusetts State Police, MBTA Police, and Boston Housing Authority Police, to execute several search warrants across the city.
Key locations targeted included 176 Stratton St. in Dorchester, 127 Hazelton St. in Mattapan, and 1059 Tremont St. in Roxbury, highlighting the widespread nature of the drug crisis affecting these neighborhoods.
“As a result of the coordinated operation, we are taking significant steps to combat the drug crisis,” a Boston Police spokesperson stated.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ricky Wilson Soto-Arias, 36, of Dorchester; Doris Baez, 37, of Mattapan; Bryan Mejia, 31, also of Mattapan; Jeil Hernandez, 44, of Boston; and Stephen Smith, 37, of Boston. All except Smith are facing charges for trafficking Class A drugs, while Soto-Arias and Baez also face charges for unlawful possession of ammunition. Smith has been charged on existing warrants for breaking and entering and larceny over $250.
This latest operation reflects the Boston Police’s commitment to tackling the growing drug crisis in the city and restoring community safety. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as authorities continue their crackdown on the drug trade.
Developing: The situation is fluid, and further updates are expected as police investigations continue. Community members are encouraged to stay informed about this critical issue impacting public health and safety.
