Evanston Animal Shelter Hosts Urgent Fundraiser for Pets, Artists

UPDATE: The Evanston Animal Shelter launched an urgent fundraiser and adoption event on July 15, 2023, to support local artists and animal welfare. The event, named “The Love of Animals Art Show,” featured over 30 artists from the Evanston community, showcasing their work to benefit animals in need.

According to Anna Marie Crovetti, the event coordinator, local artists eagerly participated to make a difference. “I am active in this unbelievably thriving creative community in Evanston, and the varied artists here wanted to jump in to make a difference for the animals,” Crovetti stated.

Many artists, including Kristin Conneely, pledged to donate 50% to 100% of their sales to the shelter. Conneely, a proud owner of a rescue dog, expressed her motivation: “Rescue is the way to go.” Her mosaic portrait of her dog, made from china and glass, was among the featured artworks.

Attendees celebrated each sale with a ringing bell, creating an atmosphere of excitement and community spirit. Conneely shared that the sound of the bell reminded everyone of the fundraiser’s mission, bringing joy to supporters and artists alike.

Lisa Degliantoni, who assisted with payments, emphasized that the shelter’s no-kill policy makes it a unique community hub. “It’s exciting because this is an awesome new building, and there are many people who might not adopt but will show up for a fundraiser,” she noted.

The new facility, which opened in 2024, is over three times larger than the previous shelter, enabling greater community engagement. Crovetti hopes this fundraiser will become an annual event, reinforcing connections in an already vibrant city. “We’re expecting great relationships with the community coming into the shelter,” she added.

This urgent initiative not only supports local artists but also enhances animal welfare in Evanston. The event has already drawn significant interest, underscoring the community’s dedication to making a positive impact.
