Hialeah Man, 21, Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Fatal Crash
UPDATE: A 21-year-old Hialeah man, Kevin Brito Rios, is now facing serious charges of vehicular homicide following a tragic head-on collision that left one person dead. The incident unfolded just before 9 p.m. on October 23, 2023, near W. 20th Avenue and W. 76th Street.
Authorities confirm that Brito Rios was driving recklessly, recorded speeding at 80 mph in a 30 mph zone prior to the crash. Local law enforcement attempted to pursue him after he was observed dangerously weaving through traffic in his 2022 Toyota Supra. The pursuit quickly escalated as he entered oncoming lanes, showcasing a blatant disregard for public safety.
The situation turned dire when Brito Rios failed to negotiate a curve, crashing head-on into a Ford Mustang. The driver and passenger of the Mustang were rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where the driver tragically succumbed to their injuries the following day. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
Vehicle data from the Mustang indicated that Brito Rios was traveling at a minimum speed of 54 mph at the time of impact, despite being in a 35 mph zone. After the collision, he remained at the scene, where Hialeah police later arrested him at his apartment.
Brito Rios is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as authorities determine his bond status. The community mourns the loss of life, highlighting the urgent need for road safety and responsible driving.
