UPDATE: A 78-year-old man has been charged with double murder after the bodies of two family members were discovered in his home in Davidson County, North Carolina, on Friday. Stephen Hicks was arrested by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office after a family member alerted authorities about disturbing text messages he sent, indicating he had harmed individuals inside the residence.

Deputies responded to the home on Raye Drive for a welfare check, where they found Hicks with minor self-inflicted wounds and the lifeless bodies of 76-year-old June Hicks and 45-year-old Stephen Eric Hicks. The chilling scene unfolded when deputies arrived around Friday afternoon, leading to an immediate investigation into the tragic incident.

In a court appearance on Monday, Hicks was seen in a jumpsuit and handcuffs, addressing the judge only to request a public defender for his case. The prosecutor revealed that Hicks allegedly confessed to the murders, prompting the state to request no bond due to the violent nature of the crimes. Currently, Hicks is being held without bond in the Davidson County jail.

As the situation develops, authorities have scheduled Hicks’ next court hearing for November 3. This shocking case has left the local community in disbelief as they grapple with the violent loss of life within a family.
