New Mom Shares Viral TikTok After Overcoming Breastfeeding Fears
UPDATE: A new mother from Utah is capturing the hearts of millions after sharing her emotional journey of postpartum anxiety related to breastfeeding. In a viral TikTok clip, Danielle Estrada (@danielllestrada) reflects on her initial fears that her baby wasn’t getting enough milk, a worry that many new mothers face.
Just moments ago, Estrada’s TikTok has surpassed 1.2 million views, resonating with mothers who understand the overwhelming emotions that accompany new parenthood. The video features a poignant moment where she recalls crying over her daughter Quinn potentially going to bed hungry. The accompanying text reads: “Thinking back to when I cried because I thought my baby wasn’t getting enough breast milk…”
The clip transitions to a photo of baby Quinn, her cheeks round and arms full of soft rolls, defying Estrada’s earlier fears. In her post, she affectionately describes Quinn as her “chunky girl,” emphasizing that she’s been “chunky since day one.”
Danielle, 29, shared her experience with Newsweek, explaining how social media inspired her to voice her journey. “I instantly thought of my postpartum experience because it really did feel like I lost my mind,” she stated. “It was the perfect time to share such a silly worry I had.” However, the anxiety felt anything but silly at the moment.
Estrada highlighted that the early weeks of breastfeeding can be fraught with uncertainty. She battled postpartum anxiety, revealing, “This was my first baby, so everything felt so foreign to me.” She noted that she was constantly worried about Quinn’s feeding, particularly when the baby cried after nursing.
Data from a review published in the British Journal of Psychiatry estimates that approximately 17.8 percent of new mothers report anxiety symptoms within one to four weeks postpartum, with similar rates continuing for up to a year after birth.
Danielle credits her family, especially her partner Spencer Gothberg, for supporting her during these challenging times. “He comforted me every day through the tears and encouraged me not to be so hard on myself,” she explained. Additionally, her sister, who had a baby just a week after Quinn, provided invaluable support.
As the video continues to gain traction, many mothers are sharing their own experiences in the comments. One viewer remarked, “This was me!! My daughter’s Japanese pediatrician looked at my Michelin baby’s rolls & said, ‘She’s getting enough.’” Another added, “My baby’s doctor put ‘extremely nourished’ in his notes, lol.”
Now, with Quinn thriving at 1 year old, Danielle reflects on her journey with pride. “I feel honestly proud of myself,” she said. “I was so down about breastfeeding, so to look back and see how healthy she was makes me feel a sense of accomplishment.”
This heartfelt story serves as a reminder of the shared struggles many new parents face. Danielle’s candidness not only sheds light on the often-unspoken challenges of motherhood but also fosters community among those navigating similar paths.
