Rochester Education Association Donates $750 to Support Families
URGENT UPDATE: The Rochester Education Association (REA) has just announced a significant donation to support local families struggling due to the government shutdown. In response to the disruption of SNAP benefits this month, REA is committing $250 to Channel One Foodbank, alongside nearly $500 in personal contributions from its members.
This vital support comes at a critical time for families in Rochester, who are facing food insecurity as federal aid remains stalled. “Supporting and engaging in our community is at the heart of what we do,” said Vince Wagner, president of REA. “We are proud to stand with our neighbors and help those in need during this difficult period.”
The Rochester Education Association, representing over 1,400 educators, is part of the statewide union Education Minnesota. Their rapid response highlights the urgent need for community solidarity in times of crisis.
The donation to Channel One Foodbank will directly assist families who are currently navigating significant challenges due to the lack of federal support. As the situation continues to evolve, the REA’s actions reflect a growing concern for the welfare of local residents.
This initiative not only underscores the importance of community support but also calls attention to the ongoing issues surrounding federal aid distribution. The REA is actively encouraging others to contribute to local food assistance programs as the need for resources surges.
