Urgent Alert: King Tides Bring Coastal Flooding to San Diego

URGENT UPDATE: San Diego is bracing for king tides and increased surf conditions through Friday night, as coastal flooding threatens local beaches. With wave heights expected to reach 4 to 6 feet, beachgoers are advised to exercise caution during morning high tides, particularly between 8 and 9 a.m.

As an area of high pressure settles over the region, temperatures are set to rise, reaching the low to mid-70s along the coast and low 80s inland through Sunday. This shift presents perfect conditions for outdoor activities and beach outings, but safety remains paramount.

Authorities have issued Coastal Flood Advisories for all San Diego County beaches, effective until late Friday night. The strong gravitational pull between the moon and Earth, coinciding with the “Beaver Moon” supermoon, is responsible for these significant tidal changes, marking one of the year’s highest and lowest tides.

While locals enjoy the warming trend, they must remain vigilant against the dangers posed by strong rip currents and rough surf, which are expected to create hazardous conditions in the water.

Looking ahead, weather forecasts indicate a possible shift next week, with rain predicted as early as Wednesday. However, models differ on timing and intensity, suggesting that even light rain could lead to cooler, cloudier, and breezier conditions extending through next Sunday.

Stay tuned for updates as this situation develops. Ensure safety measures are in place if you plan to visit the coast during this time.
