UWS Men’s Soccer Dominates; Women’s Team Dethroned in UMAC Action
UPDATE: The University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s soccer team clinched its eighth consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) title in a stunning fashion, obliterating Martin Luther 8-0 in their season finale on Saturday at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. The Yellowjackets ignited the game with four rapid goals within the first 18 minutes, showcasing a dominant performance that left fans in awe.
Just moments into the match, Jake Kidd scored on a breakaway, putting UWS on the board just 2 minutes in. Following him, Jacob Wyles and Kidd again added to the tally, with Kidd scoring his second shortly after the ensuing kickoff. The offensive onslaught continued, with goals from Bryce Boldt and others, including Cloquet-Esko-Carlton alum Jordan Aultman. UWS goalkeeper duo Patrick Sessions and Luke Lockman made three saves to secure the shutout.
The Yellowjackets, now boasting a record of 14-6, 12-0 UMAC, will host fourth-place Crown in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday, November 7, at 5 p.m. in Superior.
In stark contrast, the UWS women’s soccer team saw its four-year reign as UMAC champions come to an abrupt end. The Yellowjackets fell to Bethany Lutheran 2-1 at home on Friday, despite dominating with a 20-9 shot advantage. A goal by Niamh Larson came too late to salvage the game. UWS finished the regular season third and will now face a tough road match against Bethany Lutheran in the conference tournament semifinals on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
In cross country news, the UWS men’s team continued its dominance, capturing its fifth consecutive UMAC championship on Saturday in Winthrop, Minnesota. The Yellowjackets nearly achieved a perfect score, sweeping the top four positions. Dylan Uitto led the charge with a personal best of 26:18.1 over the 8-kilometer course.
Meanwhile, UWS men’s hockey kicked off their season with an impressive 7-0 victory against Marian, showcasing their No. 13 ranking in the USCHO.com poll. The Yellowjackets’ strong performance was highlighted by a shorthanded goal from Justin Dauphinais and a stellar 17-save shutout by goalkeeper Jan Skorpik.
In contrast, the women’s hockey team faced a challenging start, suffering back-to-back shutout losses to Lake Forest, failing to net a goal in both games. UWS will look to turn the tide on Friday, November 7 against Hamline.
The UWS volleyball team fought hard against conference powerhouse Northwestern but ultimately fell 3-1. Despite a promising start, the Yellowjackets couldn’t maintain momentum, though they remain in second place in the UMAC standings.
