YouTube Purges 3,000 Malicious Videos Spreading Malware NOW
URGENT UPDATE: YouTube has just removed a staggering 3,000 malicious videos designed to spread malware, according to Check Point Research. These deceptive videos, masquerading as ‘Cracked software’ and ‘Game Hacks,’ preyed on unsuspecting users looking for popular software downloads.
This disturbing revelation comes amid rising concerns about online safety. The YouTube Ghost Network utilized a sophisticated strategy of fake positive engagement to mislead viewers and promote harmful content. By exploiting YouTube’s vast platform, these videos amassed millions of views, including one targeting Adobe Photoshop that garnered 293,000 views, and another aimed at FL Studio with 147,000 views.
Authorities have confirmed that the malware distributed through these videos includes notorious strains like Lumma, Rhadamanthys, and RedLine infostealers, which have proven to be both damaging and profitable for their creators. This network has reportedly been active since 2021, with a significant uptick in video creation in 2025, tripling its output and showcasing the campaign’s alarming scalability.
The operation was particularly insidious due to its reliance on a network of accounts that generated positive interactions, such as likes and comments, creating a façade of legitimacy. This manipulation disarmed viewers and fostered a false sense of security.
As internet traffic increasingly becomes dominated by bots—estimated at up to 50%—the risks associated with online content are at an all-time high. Users are now urged to exercise increased caution when engaging with online software offerings.
In a broader context, this incident underscores a growing trend where malware is disseminated through seemingly innocent social media interactions. Earlier campaigns have been identified on platforms like Reddit and WeTransfer, also promoting the Lumma malware, highlighting the shifting landscape of cyber threats.
Experts warn that users must remain vigilant against such tactics. The proliferation of malware through trusted platforms poses significant risks, urging individuals to be more discerning about the software they download.
As this story develops, users are advised to stay informed about potential threats and to regularly check for updates from reliable sources. The online community’s safety hinges on awareness and proactive measures against these malicious campaigns.
Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue to investigate this alarming situation.
