Indiana Lawmaker Targeted in Swatting Incident Amid Redistricting Pressure
An Indiana lawmaker faced a swatting incident at his home on November 19, 2025, shortly after he was publicly pressured by President Donald Trump regarding redistricting efforts in the state. State Senator Greg Goode, who has not yet declared his position on Trump’s proposal to redraw Indiana’s congressional boundaries, was the target of a false emergency call that prompted sheriff’s deputies to respond to his residence in Terre Haute.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched following an email report suggesting that harm had come to individuals inside Goode’s home. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that all residents were safe and unharmed, confirming the incident as a prank known as swatting. “All persons were secure, safe, and unharmed. Investigation showed that this was a prank or false email,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Goode, a Republican, expressed gratitude for the professionalism of the responding officers. He noted on social media that the deputies were led to believe they were responding to a domestic violence emergency. “While this entire incident is unfortunate and reflective of the volatile nature of our current political environment, I give thanks to God that my family and I are okay,” he wrote.
Earlier on the same day, Trump criticized Goode and Rodric Bray, the Indiana Senate President Pro Tem, for not advancing the redistricting plan, which aims to solidify Republican control in the U.S. House during the upcoming midterm elections. Trump stated, “Because of these two politically correct type ‘gentlemen,’ and a few others, they could be depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House, a VERY BIG DEAL!”
Bray, who leads the Republican caucus in the Indiana Senate, announced that his chamber would not convene to vote on the redistricting proposal due to insufficient support from his colleagues, despite ongoing pressure from the White House and visits from Vice President JD Vance. Goode has maintained that he will not make a decision on the matter without reviewing the proposed map and accompanying legislation.
This swatting incident underscores the increasing tensions surrounding political issues, particularly as Democrats need to gain only three seats to take control of the House, prompting a strong push from Trump for Republican-led states to adopt favorable redistricting maps. States such as Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio have already enacted new congressional maps designed to enhance Republican chances, while California and Virginia are preparing to redraw their districts to benefit Democrats.
The investigation into the swatting incident remains ongoing, as authorities seek to hold accountable those responsible for the false report.
