Teen’s Day Out Turns Tragic as Bear Attack Claims Life
A peaceful summer outing in Siberia, Russia, turned catastrophic when a teenager was fatally attacked by a bear. Olga Moskalyova, 19, was walking along the river with her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, when they encountered multiple bears. Tragically, Olga was on the phone with her mother, Tatiana Moskalyova, during the ordeal, and she heard the horrifying events unfold in real-time.
The day began with promise but quickly devolved into chaos. After encountering the bears, Olga called her mother in distress, describing the situation. Moments later, the call was abruptly interrupted as the phone was taken from her grasp. In a frantic attempt to warn her mother, she screamed, “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!” Initially, Tatiana thought it might be a prank, but the sounds of growling and crunching quickly made her recognize the terrifying reality.
Tatiana recalled the moment with heartbreak, stating, “But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice.” As the ordeal continued, Olga managed to contact her mother several times, each call filled with desperation. Approximately an hour later, Tatiana received what would be her daughter’s final words: “Mum, it’s not hurting anymore. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything; I love you so much.”
In shock and disbelief, Tatiana contacted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene an hour and a half later, only to find that six hunters had to be dispatched to track down the bears. Reports indicated that the bears were still feeding on Olga’s body when they were discovered.
Prior to this tragic incident, Olga was remembered as a vibrant and warm individual. Her mother described her daughter as someone who had her whole future ahead of her. Just days before the bear attack, Olga had graduated from music school and obtained her driving license. Both she and her stepfather were laid to rest together on the same day in 2011.
Bear attacks in Russia appear to be increasingly common, particularly in wildlife areas where bears search for food and perceive humans as intruders in their territory. The devastating loss of Olga Moskalyova serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by wildlife in these regions.
