Vilpa Films, founded by Mexican producer and filmmaker Alejandro Vilpa, is set to launch a new streaming platform dedicated to short films, named Vilpa Max, on January 31, 2024. This initiative aims to provide a venue for short filmmakers worldwide to showcase their work to a global audience.

Initially, Vilpa Max will be available in the U.K., North Africa, and the Middle East, with plans to expand into additional territories in the future. The platform will offer two subscription models: a freemium option that includes advertising and a paid subscription priced at £4.99 (approximately $6.68) in the U.K. and $3.99 in the Middle East and North Africa.

The launch lineup for Vilpa Max features a selection of critically acclaimed films. Among the highlights are the Oscar-winning short The Mozart of Pickpockets by writer/director Philippe Pollet-Villard, the Oscar-nominated The Red Suitcase from director Cyrus Neshvad, and the Cannes Palme d’Or-winning film All the Crows in the World by Yi Tang. Additional titles include Poof by Dean Anderson and Love Is Blind by Dan Hodgson, both of which were part of the official selection at Cannes.

Vilpa Max subscribers will also have access to Bienvenidos a Los Ángeles by Lisa Cole, which has been shortlisted for the 2024 Academy Awards, and Nocturne in Black by Jimmy Keyrouz.

Vision for Emerging Filmmakers

Aiming to bridge the gap between emerging filmmakers and international distribution, Alejandro Vilpa stated, “At Vilpa Films and Vilpa Max, our mission is to champion extraordinary cinema while creating a bridge for emerging filmmakers to enter the international distribution landscape.”

He emphasized the importance of curating and producing works that stand alongside Oscar-winning and Cannes-acclaimed films. This effort not only seeks to enrich the viewing experience for audiences but also to empower new voices in the film industry, offering them opportunities for international visibility as they build their careers.

Vilpa’s experience includes contributing to the script development team at Caledonia Productions, which operates as the U.S. branch of Eon Productions, known for producing the James Bond franchise. This background has informed his approach to establishing Vilpa Max as a significant player in the short film streaming sector.

With the launch of Vilpa Max, short films are set to gain a new platform, broadening the reach for diverse narratives and innovative storytelling. As audiences increasingly turn to streaming services for content, Vilpa Max positions itself to be a unique destination for short film enthusiasts.
