NIU’s Electric Microcar to Hit Market Soon After EICMA Reveal
UPDATE: NIU’s highly anticipated electric microcar, the NIUMM, is officially heading for production following its showcase at EICMA 2025, the Milan Motorcycle Show. This development comes just after the company confirmed that the vehicle is completing its final homologation testing, a crucial step before its commercial launch.
The NIUMM is designed specifically for urban dwellers, particularly appealing to those already using NIU scooters, as it utilizes the same batteries. This compact L6e quadricycle features a dual battery system that can propel it up to 70 km (approximately 43 miles) with a top speed of 45 km/h (about 28 mph), which aligns with regulatory requirements for this class of vehicle. For users needing extended range, the microcar includes additional battery slots for two more batteries, effectively doubling its range.
Sieghart Michielsen, NIU’s Director of International, stated, “We are thrilled to announce that the NIUMM is one step closer to becoming a reality for our customers.” The vehicle’s design caters to a growing niche in European cities, where compact and lightweight vehicles are increasingly favored for their ease of use and affordability.
With a maximum weight limit of 425 kg (excluding batteries), the L6e quadricycle can be driven with just a moped license in various countries, making it accessible to a wider audience, including teenagers and older adults. The demand for such vehicles is rising as urbanization intensifies and the need for efficient, cost-effective transportation solutions grows.
The Citroen Ami serves as a notable example of this trend, illustrating how minimalistic design and low prices—around €7,000—can capture the interest of city residents. The NIUMM aims to capitalize on this momentum, bringing a similar offering to the market.
While specific pricing details and availability timelines remain undisclosed, industry insiders suggest that the NIUMM could be available to consumers sooner rather than later. This potential release positions NIU to emerge as a key player in the evolving landscape of urban mobility solutions.
As cities pivot towards car-light futures, the NIUMM’s introduction could significantly impact daily commuting experiences, offering an innovative alternative to traditional vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development as NIU prepares to launch its electric microcar.
In this fast-paced world of evolving transportation, the anticipation surrounding the NIUMM is palpable. Prepare to share this news as it unfolds!
