Block Club Chicago Recognized as Best Daily News Site Globally
Block Club Chicago has been awarded the title of Best Daily News Site in an international competition organized by Editor & Publisher, a respected trade magazine that focuses on newspapers and various news outlets. This recognition highlights the publication’s commitment to high-quality journalism and its impact on local communities.
A Global Recognition for Quality Journalism
The competition attracted entries from organizations around the world, all evaluated by a panel of professional journalists. Block Club’s consistent dedication to in-depth reporting and community engagement has set it apart in this prestigious arena. This accolade follows a previous honor in 2021, when Block Club was named the Best Online-only News Publication by the same organization.
Since its inception in 2018, Block Club has produced over 29,000 stories, covering a wide array of topics affecting Chicago residents. With a focus on transparency and accountability, the newsroom has also been recognized as Business of the Year and Publisher of the Year by the Local Independent Online News Publishers and received the Community Champion of the Year award from the Institute for Nonprofit News.
Impactful Investigative Reporting
Over the past year, Block Club has engaged in significant investigative work. Notably, it brought attention to troubling conditions at a Northwest Side hospital, which has been controversially referred to as “Death Hospital.” Additionally, the newsroom tackled the pressing issue of domestic violence in Chicago, conducting a thorough investigation into the city’s deepening crisis.
Block Club’s commitment to community service has also been evident in its reporting on local issues, such as the prolonged neglect of an illegal junkyard in Englewood, where residents called for cleanup for more than a year without action from city officials. Their journalism has not only informed the public but has also sparked necessary conversations around these critical issues.
Recently, Block Club has received acclaim for its coverage of the Trump administration’s federal immigration operations, particularly the initiatives known as Midway Blitz and At Large. This coverage has provided invaluable insights into the implications of these policies on local communities.
