Lindsey Buckingham Announces New Solo Album After Fleetwood Mac Rift
Lindsey Buckingham has announced the upcoming release of a new solo album, marking his first new music in over five years. The former guitarist of Fleetwood Mac shared insights into the record through a social media post, emphasizing that it represents a culmination of his experiences over the past 25 years. This album will be his eighth solo project and follows the release of his self-titled album in 2021.
Buckingham’s career has been notably intertwined with Fleetwood Mac since he joined the band in 1975, replacing Bob Welch. He played a crucial role in the group’s most commercially successful era, contributing to classic albums such as *Rumours* and *Tango in the Night*. His solo work began in 1981 with *Law and Order*, and he has since produced seven solo albums, drawing upon his extensive experiences outside of band settings.
In a video posted to X, Buckingham stated, “This new album is the culmination of everything that I’ve learned from making solo albums over the last 25 years. I feel like this particular album is the culmination of holding a certain line ethically and idealistically that I’ve managed to maintain for many years. So I’m really excited about this piece of work.”
Reconciliation with Mick Fleetwood
Buckingham’s announcement comes on the heels of recent developments with Fleetwood Mac. After an acrimonious split from the band in 2018, Buckingham was seen in the studio with drummer Mick Fleetwood earlier this year. Fleetwood is currently working on his first album since the band’s disbandment, with Swedish producer Carl Falk. The moment marked a reunion for the two musicians after seven years, which Fleetwood described as “unreal.”
The guitarist’s return to the spotlight also includes the reissue of *Buckingham Nicks*, the landmark album he created with former Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks in 1973. This album was pivotal in their eventual joining of Fleetwood Mac and has continued to resonate with fans. Nicks, like Buckingham, has carved out a successful solo career, with hits such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Quit Draggin’ My Heart Around.”
Buckingham’s departure from Fleetwood Mac was met with disappointment among fans. Yet for Mike Campbell, who stepped in for him, the opportunity provided a vital outlet following the loss of his friend and collaborator, Tom Petty. Campbell has expressed gratitude for the chance to contribute to the band during that transitional period.
As Buckingham prepares for the release of his new album, he remains a significant figure in the music industry, blending his wealth of experience with new creative endeavors. His forthcoming work promises to reflect not only his musical journey but also the principles that have guided him throughout his career.
