Theater for the New City Launches 2026 Season with Lehrman Operas

Theater for the New City is set to open its 2026 season with the presentation of two operas composed by Leonard Lehrman. This exciting lineup features the operas “Sima” and “E.G.: A Musical Portrait of Emma Goldman,” both showcasing a diverse cast of talented performers.

The first opera, “Sima,” will run from January 8 to 25, 2026. The production stars Kira Neary, Bennett Pologe, Perri Sussman, Samantha Long, and Hannah Grace Hollingsworth in lead roles. A strong ensemble of choristers will include Addie Grant, Michael Jiang, Desi Sandoval, Boaz Katz, Noelle Louis, Lily Nussbaum, Jacob Hollingsworth, Miranda Libanan, Luka Zylik, and Niko Zylik. The production will be under the direction of Lissa Moira, with musical conducting by the composer himself.

Following “Sima,” the theater will present “E.G.: A Musical Portrait of Emma Goldman,” which will be performed from January 9 to 24, 2026. In the title role of Emma Goldman is Caryn Hartglass, who will also join Lehrman on stage, performing male characters throughout the opera. Lissa Moira will direct this production as well, further emphasizing her commitment to bringing Lehrman’s works to life.
