EPISD Interim Superintendent Celebrates Student Successes and Staff Growth
The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) Interim Superintendent, Martha Aguirre, recently highlighted significant student achievements and staff initiatives as the district continues its search for a new superintendent. In a message to the community, Aguirre emphasized the importance of ongoing engagement from stakeholders, encouraging feedback to help define the qualities sought in the next district leader.
With the superintendent search underway, Aguirre noted that community input is crucial. “Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent,” she stated, highlighting the district’s commitment to transparency. Community members can share their insights through an online portal that remains open until November 2, 2023.
Celebrating Athletic Achievements
Aguirre took the opportunity to recognize the athletic talents within EPISD, particularly acknowledging twelve athletes who participated in the UIL Cross Country State Championships held in Round Rock, Texas. “We want to wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock this weekend,” Aguirre expressed, showing support for competitors from various high schools, including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin.
One standout among the student body is Jesus Jasso, a senior at Burges High School. Jasso has been celebrated for his determination in overcoming hearing loss and is set to represent the United States in the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo. Aguirre lauded Jasso as a “shining example of courage, determination, and Mustang pride,” reflecting the resilience and spirit of the entire EPISD community.
Hiring Initiatives for Special Education
In addition to highlighting student success, Aguirre announced a hiring initiative aimed at strengthening the Special Education Department. The district is actively seeking dedicated educators to support students with diverse learning needs. A job fair is scheduled for November 6, 2023, from 15:00 to 18:00 at the Professional Development Center located at 6500 Boeing Drive.
This initiative underscores EPISD’s commitment to inclusivity and quality education, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive. By attracting passionate educators, the district aims to enhance its capacity to serve the diverse student population.
As EPISD continues its quest for new leadership, the emphasis on community engagement and student achievements showcases the district’s dedication to fostering a vibrant educational environment.
