Mary Margaret Putanko, Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Passes Away
Mary Margaret “Peggy” Putanko, aged 87, passed away on October 8, 2025, at her residence in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Previously a long-time resident of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, she was known for her warmth and devotion to family.
Born on June 1, 1938, Peggy was raised in Edenborn, the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret Havrilla Plisko. Her life was marked by her love for her family, particularly her late husband, Joseph Putanko, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his passing in June 2017.
Peggy is remembered not only for her deep familial connections but also for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Plisko, and her cherished dog, Daisy.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Putanko Cales, son-in-law Kevin Cales, and granddaughter, Madison Cales. Peggy’s legacy continues through her siblings, including Elaine Chury (the late Richard), Lanny Plisko, Marlene Guappone, Judi Kolencik (Edward), and Kenny Plisko (Jani), as well as her sister-in-law, Vanessa Plisko, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be conducted to honor her memory and provide a space for family and friends to reflect on the impact she had on their lives. Peggy’s spirit and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
