UPDATE: Motorists in Callaway County are celebrating as Route FF has reopened ahead of schedule, marking a significant milestone in the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)’s ongoing improvement efforts for I-70. The road was cleared of construction, having previously faced height restrictions due to an overhead railroad bridge that has now been successfully removed.

This swift reopening, finalized on October 30, 2023, just 16 days after construction began on October 14, 2023, showcases MoDOT’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure efficiency. This project is the first step in a broader initiative aimed at improving nearly 200 miles of I-70 across Missouri, backed by a $405 million fixed-cost contract.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant in work zones. MoDOT emphasizes, “All motorists are reminded to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones.” This urgent call for responsible driving highlights the importance of safety amid ongoing improvements.

The upgrades between Columbia and Kingdom City will include adding a third lane in each direction, repaving the highway, and enhancing interchanges to improve traffic flow and safety. These enhancements are crucial as Missouri allocates a staggering $2.8 billion in general revenue for infrastructure projects in the FY2024 budget, which includes plans to further expand I-70 from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

This development is not just a win for local commuters; it represents a significant leap forward in Missouri’s commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure. As this project progresses, residents and travelers will benefit from more efficient and safer roadways.

Stay tuned for more updates as MoDOT continues its ambitious efforts to transform I-70 and enhance travel safety across the state.
