A man from Tioga County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to serve between eight and 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child he was trusted by. Philip McCormick, 39, from Blossburg, pleaded guilty to several charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under 16, unlawful contact with a minor, and aggravated indecent assault against a person under 16. As part of his sentence, McCormick is mandated to register as a Megan’s Law offender for life.

The abuse began when the victim was just 13 years old and reportedly continued for approximately two years. Investigators revealed that McCormick was well-acquainted with the child and exploited that relationship to gain access and commit the assaults. The situation came to light when the victim disclosed the abuse to her mother.

During the announcement of the sentence, Attorney General Dave Sunday emphasized the severe impact these crimes have on victims, particularly highlighting the betrayal of trust experienced by the child. He stated that the office remains dedicated to holding those who prey on children accountable while ensuring support for victims of abuse.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Rachael Coleman and Deputy Attorney General Andrew Biggins, who played crucial roles in bringing the case to resolution.

The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and underscores the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals. Authorities continue to encourage anyone who may have knowledge of similar situations to come forward, ensuring that justice is served and victims are supported in their healing journeys.
