Family and Friends Remember Wade Gluyas, 1958-2024

Wade Alexander Gluyas, born on August 14, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, passed away on October 20, 2024, after a prolonged struggle with kidney and liver failure. He was the only son of George and Bette Gluyas and is remembered for his kindness and unwavering generosity.

A graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School, Wade earned a degree from ITT Technical School and took several community college courses out of pure curiosity. Known for his gentle nature, Wade was affectionately described as a “big teddy bear” who always wore a smile and offered a hearty laugh. His family and friends often noted that he never spoke ill of anyone, showcasing a remarkable capacity for kindness.

Wade’s generosity extended to all those around him, as he often gave away his last dollar or the shirt off his back to those he believed were in need. Despite his caring spirit, Wade struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which sometimes made it challenging for others to understand him. His care was occasionally met with suspicion, and his kindness left him vulnerable to being taken advantage of. Nevertheless, he remained steadfast in his efforts to support those he referred to as “critters,” “old geezers,” and “the little tikes.”

Life and Passions

Wade found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He shared a love of practical jokes with his sister, Becky, and enjoyed fishing with his father and sister, Leslie. His childhood friend, Chris, often reminisced about their adventures, which included dreams of exploring Alaska and other distant lands. Although they never embarked on those journeys, the conversations and plans were a cherished part of Wade’s imaginative spirit.

An enthusiastic “foodie,” Wade was known for his unique culinary creations, which often featured large amounts of sour cream, hot sauce, and mayonnaise. While some may not have recognized his dishes as traditional food, they always brought a smile to those willing to try them, especially his father, who would eat anything.

Wade remained closely connected to his family throughout his life, residing with his mother, sister, and nephew in Visalia, California. He took on the responsibility of running errands and caring for his family, especially after the passing of his parents in 2005. Following these losses, he moved in with his sister, Beth, and her husband, Gary, where he continued to be a source of love and support.

A Final Act of Generosity

Throughout his battle with illness, Wade exhibited bravery and calmness, often worrying about how his family was coping with his health struggles. In a final act of kindness, he chose to donate his organs to the Donor Network, encouraging others to consider organ donation despite their fears.

Wade Gluyas will be laid to rest alongside his parents and sister, Becky, at Murrieta Valley Cemetery in Murrieta, California. A graveside service will take place on November 3, 2024, at 13:00.

As those who knew him reflect on his life, it is clear that Wade’s absence leaves a gap that will be deeply felt. While the world may seem dimmer without him, his family believes that heaven shines a little brighter with his presence among them.
